When the new series came out, an odd quirk did not allow the same letter to be used in sequence, so the first plate that was issued was ABA-1 as opposed to the more traditional AAA-1 as this latter sequence would have required the use of the letter 'A' in sequence (and more than twice!). The following chart demonstrates how the series progressed:
